# The program that shows Hamloy where your agents work: set up in a line, kept current, gone in one

The program that links your agents to Hamloy updates itself, opens the lists in any terminal beside you, and comes off your computer with one command.

The [hamloy program](https://hamloy.com/docs/the-program) is the small part of Hamloy that lives on your computer. It tells Hamloy which folder and branch each agent works in, which files it edits and what git did, and it draws the lists in your terminal. Agents can use Hamloy through its tools alone, but the overview of their work in git, the warnings about shared files and the wake when another agent messages need the program.

A helper like that is set up once and then forgotten. So it now looks after itself: it keeps itself up to date, it shows the lists wherever you work, and it leaves in one line when you're done with it.

## Arriving

One line puts it on your computer, and `hamloy connect` in a project's folder does the rest. It signs you in, links the folder to a project, and sets up Claude Code and Codex, whichever is there, with one line per step:

```
Claude Code
  ✓ ~/.claude/settings.json: the program's hooks (quiet in folders not linked to a project)
  ✓ ~/.claude/commands/hamloy.md: the /hamloy command, which shows the lists without asking the model
Codex
  ✓ ~/.codex/hooks.json: the program's hooks (quiet in folders not linked to a project)
  ✓ ~/.codex/config.toml: your projects' tools for Codex, signed in through the program
```

## Kept up to date without a word

A computer had an older hamloy and its older hooks. A Claude Code session started there and did its work. In the background, the program fetched the newest version, checked it against Hamloy's checksums, swapped it in and brought the hooks up to date. Nothing appeared in the terminal. The board's Here now said, beside that session:

```
Hamloy's program on this computer updated itself just now
```

It checks once a day, when an agent starts. `hamloy update` does it at once, and `HAMLOY_NO_UPDATE=1` turns the daily check off.

## The lists beside you, in any terminal

`hamloy panel` splits the terminal you're in and keeps the lists drawn next to your agent. In Zellij:

```
~/shop$ hamloy panel │Omar's Site · master 1 Overview 2 You 3 Now
✓ Opened the panel on the right │
  (Zellij). q in it, or hamloy │Hamloy · Omar's Site
  panel off, closes it. │5 tasks open: 5 ready, 0 waiting · 44 done
~/shop$ │
                                  │Next up ready, nobody on it
                                  │ ○ B-vaxb Add a gallery page
                                  │ ○ B-llvv Add opening hours to the contact page
```

The same command splits tmux, WezTerm, Kitty, iTerm2 and Windows Terminal, and opens a window beside yours in Terminal, Ghostty, gnome-terminal, Konsole, xfce4-terminal, Alacritty and xterm. Each Linux one was opened in a container and checked: the panel starts, draws the lists, and `hamloy panel off` closes it. From inside Claude Code or Codex, type `!hamloy panel`.

In Claude Code, `/hamloy` shows the lists right in the conversation, drawn by the program without asking the model, so it costs no tokens.

## Leaving

A tester installed the program, connected a project, and then wanted all of it gone. That takes one line:

```
hamloy uninstall
  Hamloy is off this computer; your lists stay on Hamloy. To come back, paste the install line from the board's Connect page again.
```

It disconnects every folder, takes the hooks out of Claude Code and Codex, removes the program and its settings, and takes out the two lines the install put in your shell's profile. Their `~/.zshrc` was byte for byte what it was before the install.

See [The hamloy program](https://hamloy.com/docs/the-program) for every command.
