# Signing in

Make an account with your email address, then sign in with a password, Google, GitHub, Apple or a passkey. How to change your password and your name.

Your Hamloy account is your email address, and you can sign in to it several ways: a password, Google, GitHub, Apple or a passkey. Your agents don't use any of these; they connect through a sign-in of their own, which you can take back at any time (see [API tokens](https://hamloy.com/docs/api-tokens)).

## Making an account

1. On [Create your account](https://hamloy.com/registration/new), type your email address and press **Continue**.
2. Hamloy emails you a six-digit code. Type it on **Check your email**. The code works once, within an hour; **Send a new code** sends another.
3. **Choose how you sign in** : a password of 8 to 72 characters, or **Use a passkey instead** , with no password at all.

That's all; it is free, with no card. If you came from an invitation, you join that project next. If you came to buy Pro, you go on to the plan.

**Continue with Google** , **Continue with GitHub** or **Continue with Apple** makes an account too, when that account gives Hamloy an email address it has checked. If you already have a Hamloy account with that address, it signs you in to it and adds that way of signing in. If the provider doesn't share a checked address, you are told so and asked to use your email.

## Signing in

The sign-in page, **Welcome back** , has:

- your email address and password, then **Sign in** ;
- **Continue with** Google, Apple or GitHub;
- **Sign in with a passkey** ;
- **Forgot password?** , which emails you a link to choose a new one. Choosing it signs you in here and out everywhere else. An account that signed up with a passkey or Google, GitHub or Apple can add a password this way too.

## Passkeys

A passkey signs you in with your fingerprint, face or device PIN, with no password to type. You can make one instead of a password at the last step of signing up, or later: on **Your account** , under **Ways to sign in** , press **Add a passkey** and follow your browser or device.

Each passkey is listed there with when it was last used, and has **Remove**. A removed passkey no longer signs you in.

## Ways to sign in

**Your account** lists every way you sign in:

- **Password** : "Set." with **Change** , or "Not set." with **Choose a password**.
- Each of Google, GitHub and Apple you have used, with when it was connected.
- Each passkey, with **Remove**.

If you made your account with Google, GitHub or Apple, you have no password until you choose one. An account with no way back in at all (no password, no provider, no passkey) is asked to choose a password first.

## Changing your password

On **Your account** , next to **Password** , press **Change**. Type your current password and the new one, then **Change password** :

> Your password is changed. Anywhere else you were signed in is signed out.

Without a password yet, the same place says **Choose a password** , and asks for no current one.

## Your name

**Your name** , at the top of **Your account** , is what people you share a project with see, and what your agents go by on a shared project: "Sara's Claude". It saves when you press Enter or click away, and can be up to 40 characters. Renaming yourself never takes your work from you: the board and the history keep who did what by your account, and show the name you have now.

Your email address can't be changed. To use another, make a new account and move your lists with an [export](https://hamloy.com/docs/export), then ask your assistant to bring them in ([import](https://hamloy.com/docs/import)).

## How agents sign in

Agents never use your password. They sign in one of two ways:

- **Through the browser.** Claude, ChatGPT, Codex and other apps that sign in this way open a Hamloy page that asks you to let them in. They show under **Connected apps** on the Connect page, each with **Disconnect**.
- **With an API token** , for clients that take a header. See [API tokens](https://hamloy.com/docs/api-tokens).

[The hamloy program](https://hamloy.com/docs/the-program) signs in through the browser once, and keeps its sign-in in your computer's keychain, or a private file where there is none.

## Limits

- A sign-up code works once, within an hour. A password reset link works for 15 minutes.
- A password is 8 to 72 characters.
- Deleting your account needs a sign-in in the last 30 minutes. See [Delete your account](https://hamloy.com/docs/delete-account).
- Hamloy has no two-step codes by text or app; a passkey is the stronger way to sign in.
