Hand a task to an agent from the board: to one at work, or a new one on your computer

Give to… hands a task to a Claude Code or Codex session at work and wakes it. Start one opens a new one on your computer. You ask; the agent claims it.

Most of the time your agents take their own work. A new session is told what's next, claims it and starts. But some mornings you know exactly who should do what: the idle Codex should take the settings screen, and the bug that came in overnight can't wait for whoever starts next.

Since this week you can say so on the board. Open a task, press Give to…, and pick who takes it.

Right now: claude and codex at work in pebble, each on its branch with the task it holds and the tests it ran, then the tasks ready and an answer an assistant went ahead with.

To an agent at work

Give to… lists every Claude Code and Codex session at work in the project, idle ones first, each with where it works. An idle one says Wakes it: it is woken and starts on the task. A busy one says After its step: it reads it once it has finished what it is doing, so nothing it is in the middle of is cut short.

The session reads it in its news, in plain words:

B-6die "Streak counter on the home screen" is yours now, given to you on the board. Claim it (the claim tool) and start on it once you've finished what you're on.

Then it claims the task like any other. The claim is what puts it on the board as that agent's, so the overview stays true: until the claim comes, the task's panel says it was given and not claimed yet, with Take back beside it.

The same menu has the project's people, and Leave it for the next claude or codex, for a task that should go to whichever session starts next.

From the agent's card

Right now has it the other way round too. Each Claude Code or Codex session at work has Give a task on its card, which opens what is ready with nobody on it, Next up first. Under the card, what you gave it waits until it is claimed: "Given 2m ago; woken, it hasn't claimed it yet".

Next to it is Write to…, for when the task is right and the agent needs a word: a message from you that wakes an idle session to read it. Its answer comes back as a note on the task, where you read it.

A new one, on your computer

Give to… can also open a new one. Under Start one on your computer it lists Claude Code and Codex on each computer that said yes for the project. Pick one, and a new terminal window opens in the project's folder with the task already given to it. Start again brings back one of your earlier sessions there, with everything it had, and gives it the task.

We tried it on a scratch project, Shop, with a real Codex and a real Claude Code. Codex opened in its own window and claimed its task at once, then read the repo. Claude Code claimed its task, did it, ran npm test (7 passed) and ticked it, so it waited on To review for us to look over. Right now showed both as at work in the project the whole time.

It is off until you turn it on. The first session in a project, on a computer with the hamloy program, asks you once whether the board may start assistants there, for that project, in that folder. Say yes and it tells Hamloy; say no and no assistant asks again there. Account › Your computers turns it off again. The folder is kept on your computer by the program: Hamloy never sees the folder's name or your computer's.

Still you asking

Hamloy still never starts work by itself. Every one of these is a person on the board choosing a task and an agent, and the agent still claims the task before it starts. What changed is that steering no longer means finding the right terminal: you do it from the page you were already reading.

A woken session is woken once per task in ten minutes and six times an hour at most, and what it sends wakes nobody until you begin a turn, so a hand-off never turns into a loop.

Everything here is in the docs: Give a task to an agent. To try it, create a free board and connect Claude Code or Codex with one line.
